Phase 1 of the project is shown to the left. The trail will start at the Aspen Links(External link) clubhouse and go north along Hole 10, across South Plains Road, and to Hole 11. Overall, the trail will be approx. 1.72 km long. The trail is almost entirely on the Aspen Links golf course and protected by trees, rises, and buildings. The RM is excited to work with the golf course to develop this pilot recreation opportunity. You can download a high-quality version of the cross-country ski trail map in the 'Documents' widget to the right.
There will be three official entrances to the trail (highlighted by the blue arrows):
1) From the Aspen Links Clubhouse parking lot (primary entrance); 2) From the trail along South Plains Road; and 3) From the trail near Hogan Place.
The RM has been working with the Regina Ski Club(External link). The ski club maintains the trails at White Butte Recreation Site and has extensive experience designing and planning cross-country trails across the Regina region. The RM is relying on the Ski Club's experience and expertise to ensure the trail is appropriate, well-designed, and will serve community needs.
Before the RM installs signage, trail markers, and other infrastructure, we are looking for community members interested in being Cross-Country Community Champions. Whether you have skied all your life, picked up skiing as a COVID hobby, or are interested in becoming more involved in your community, we would love to hear from you!
